Iowa. Fifty-year-old Marcus Marakovich, assistant coach of a minor league basketball team, lives with the frustration of feeling sidelined and having wasted his talent. Fired following an argument with his boss, he drives drunk and crashes a police car and is sentenced to community service. For ninety days he will have to coach a scrappy basketball team made up of boys and girls with mental disorders or genetic disorders and participate in the league championship. Gruff and impatient, Marcus will become attached to his players and choose to remain as coach even after serving his sentence, making it to the national finals.
